Hi-Def Audio has constructed an
outlet box named "The
Metal Box". The
special features of this box, include:
* Star wiring to
each receptacle. (The receptacles aren't simply "chained" together, in
series).
Wire & Plug Options
* A 4 conductor 10 gauge cord
connected to the outlet box. Two separate 10 AWG copper ground wires
are inside the the cable. RFI suppression is accomplished with a "one
way" or "unidirectional" cables. This is known as a telescoping or
telescopic ground. One of the ground wires is connected to the outlets'
grounds (in a star wire fashion), and the other ground is connected to
the box and telescoped to the audio equipment(with no connection
there). Steel has excellent permeability of magnetic fields- so it is a
good choice of materials for audiophile outlet boxes. By connecting a
ground to the box, it also drains away RF, and makes for a much SAFER
box.
NeoTech NEP-3001/3200
In
1991, UP-OCC had been granted by Professor Dr. Ohno of the Chiba
Institute of Technology in Japan to introduce the innovation of Ohno
Continuous Casting Process into the Hi-fi industry.
The
unidirectional UPOCC, being free from impurity (up to 99.99998% pure
copper and silver) has electric resistance and practically no crystal
boundaries. Neotech has been producing outstanding cable using "single
crystal" UP-OCC Copper, developed by Professor Ohno of the Chiba
Institute of Technology in Japan. UP-OCC copper has an average crystal
size of 410 feet! Compare this to the average crystal size of Oxygen
Free Copper, which is 3/4". UP-OCC copper and silver are considered the
ultimate in copper and silver conductor technology today.
Accordingly,
it is able to transmit electrical signals faster, and with
less distortion than ordinary OFC and silver wires. All of these
features make the pure OCC copper and silver the state-of-the art
conductor materials for the audiophile cable industry.
At
the heart of NeoTechs cable design is the use of UP-OCC copper and
silver metallurgy employing the continuous-casting method as developed
by Professor Ohno of the Chiba Institute in Japan. The unidirectional
UP-OCC, being free from impurity (up to 99.99998% pure copper and
silver) has electric resistance and practically no crystal boundaries.
The net result is a cable with a signal path free of mechanical
(electron collision) and electrical distortion as compared to oxygen
free copper (OFC) and silver wires typically used in cable
manufacturing. As a Materials Engineer, it easy for me to envision that
an electrical signal transmitted through cable free of grain boundaries
would sound more precise, focused, smoother, and less distorted, but
the proof is in the hearing.
The
NeoTech NP-3001 power cord consists of three multi-strand cores
(positive, negative, and ground), a silver Mylar foil, drain wire and
three spacer rods all housed within a PVC outer jacket. For each
multi-strand core, there is a PE central cord that runs along the
length of the wire. Concerning the NP-3001 power cord, the silver Mylar
foil and drain wires are only connected to ground on the male connector
side. Three PE spacer rods are used to absorb mechanical resonance.
Both IEC connectors are custom built by NeoTech design using OCC
conductors with gold plating. As power cords go, I would classify this
one as semi-stiff .
Using
UP-OCC copper in the manufacture of audio cables results in a distinct
advantage over cables using lower purity multi-crystalline OFC with my
reference cables sounding unnatural and constricted in comparison. The
effects of using the UP-OCC copper in your system is addictive the
more you add, the more you want to remove the other OFC cables.
The
Neotech NEP-3001 utilizes 10 AWG individual conductors for hot,
neutral, and ground, as well as an aluminum/mylar shield. The overall
outside diameter of NEP-3001 cable is 0 .6".
The
NeoTech NEP-3200 power cord uses the same UP-OCC copper but the
similarities ends there. This higher gauge cable is multi-stranded with
teflon insulation covering each strand and the strands surrounding a
central hollow PVC tube that extends along the length of the
cable. 9 AWG. A true reference grade power cord, with
the NeoTech NEP-3200, vocals will take a more natural palatable
quality. Improvements will also be heard in areas of image bloom,
focus, soundstage width, sense of space and the expression of
micro/macro contrasts. A significant jump in resolution and space
between instruments will likely be noticed.
This cable, like all of our power
cables, is available with the
Oyaide
P-079(Direct Gold), and
the
P-004(Beryllium
Copper-Platinum/Palladium plate). We
also have the Wattgate, and
Marinco line of connectors. Click here.

ANNOUNCING A NEW STANDARD IN POWER CABLE
DESIGN: THE "TUNAMI"
2006
Excellence Award (Japan)
2006
Visual Grand Prix (Japan)
Oyaide
Electric with experience gained from a long history of cable design,
has developed a reference standard power cable called the "Tunami". The
cable is constructed using PCOCC-A wire developed by Furukawa Electric
using advanced heat control and extrusion technology. The cable
utilizes a 5.5 sq. mm conductor core that is rated up to 30 amps and
can take up to 600 volts A/C. This makes it a leader in its class
delivering a powerful sound. In addition it has a unique 3 layer
shielding system not only to shut out external noise but also to
suppress internal noise resulting in a very low noise floor. The
combination of advanced and creative technologies delivers the
recording artists' every intention along with the delicate atmosphere
that surrounds them.
PCOCC-A
This
is an ultra pure single crystal copper originally developed by
Professor Ohno. It was then further evolved into PCOCC utilizing a
single copper grain wire. This design results in an extremely low level
of signal disturbance and loss due to the lack of crystalline borders
along the signal path.
Oyaide
Electric has further refined this process with a highly controlled
heating and cooling process and improved furnace management to realize
a mirror finish. It is now called PCOCC-A and is the epitome of
Japanese craftsmanship.
3-Layer
Shielding
It
is a fundamental requirement of cable design that they be free from
external noise. Oyaide has been a leader in this area with our
traditional star-quad structure.
We
have gone a step further with the "Tunami" employing a unique three
layer shielding system.
The
first layer absorbs the disorders of electromagnetic field formation;
the second (carbon) layer is used to absorb the random movement of
electrons caused by current fluctuations stored in insulating materials
and a third copper foil layer with a drain wire to protect from
external noise sources. The drain wire is then connected to ground for
perfect shielding.
Insulator
It
is our philosophy at Oyaide to try every possiblity until we have
achieved the optimum harmony among the various materials employed in a
design. We tested multiple variations in hardness and density of
insulating materials to determine which combinations would yield the
greatest resonance control. The result was to employ several grades of
high polymer polyolefin in the internal structure for maximum benefit.
We
then developed a method for applying the coverings onto the conductors
with greater tension to achieve a more uniform and secure fitting.
